# WhisperChat vs Intercom Fin: Pricing, Features & Which to Choose in 2026

Let’s get one thing out of the way. Intercom and WhisperChat aren’t the same kind of tool. Intercom is a full support platform for a whole team. WhisperChat is a chatbot that answers questions on your website. So the real question isn’t “which one is better?” It’s “do I actually need everything Intercom does?”

## Is WhisperChat a good Intercom alternative for a small team?

For a lot of small teams, yes. If you mostly need website questions answered, WhisperChat costs $49 a month for about 5,000 questions. With Intercom, you pay $29 to $132 per person each month (on yearly billing), then another $0.99 every time Fin, their AI, sorts out a conversation. The catch? Intercom gives you a shared inbox, tickets and workflows. WhisperChat doesn’t. If your team uses those every day, stick with Intercom.

Every WhisperChat channel answers from the same knowledge and shows up in the same dashboard. So you train it once, and it works everywhere you’ve connected it. WordPress and the website embed work on every plan, including Free. The other integrations need a paid plan.

The big difference is the type of channel. WhisperChat covers your website, your team chat and your community. Intercom also covers the ways customers reach you directly, like email, phone and WhatsApp.

## What Intercom can do that we can’t

We’ll be honest here. Intercom does a lot more than WhisperChat.

It gives your team a shared inbox, tickets, workflows, SLAs, routing, reports and a help centre. It handles email, phone, WhatsApp and SMS too. And Fin can actually do things for customers, like process a refund or update an account.

WhisperChat does one thing. It answers questions on your website using your own content.

If your team lives in Intercom’s inbox all day, we’re not going to tell you to switch. This page is really for teams wondering, “Do we need all of this yet?”

## How Intercom charges you

Your Intercom bill comes in two parts. The second one is where people usually get surprised.

Seats. Everyone on your team who uses the inbox needs a seat. On yearly billing, that’s $29 a month on Essential, $85 on Advanced and $132 on Expert. Pay month to month and it goes up to $39, $99 or $139. You pay this whether the AI answers anything or not.

Fin outcomes. On top of seats, Fin charges $0.99 each time it gets a result. Most of the time that means a resolution: the customer didn’t ask for more help after Fin’s last reply. A few other things count too, like Fin finishing a set process that ends with handing the chat to your team.

The good news is you only pay once per conversation, no matter how many questions Fin answers. And if a chat just goes to a person without any result, you pay nothing.

Already using Zendesk, Salesforce or another helpdesk? You can add Fin to it without paying for Intercom seats. You’ll just need to pay for at least 50 outcomes a month.

In fairness, paying only when the AI does its job is a reasonable deal. The problem is that the bill keeps growing as you get busier. You can set a spending limit, but once you hit it, some customers won’t get an AI answer.

## What you’d actually pay

Here’s the quick version. At 1,000 resolutions a month, Intercom with 3 seats comes to $1,077. WhisperChat Standard is $49.

### A few things to keep in mind

- We used 3 Essential seats at $29 each on yearly billing ($87 a month), plus $0.99 per Fin outcome. Both are Intercom’s own published prices.
- This is just maths on public prices. It’s not a quote, and bigger customers may get discounts we can’t see.
- You’re not buying the same thing. Intercom’s price covers a full support platform for your human team. WhisperChat’s covers AI answers on your website.
- At around 100 resolutions a month, Intercom is fair value. The gap only really opens up as you grow.

## Where each one wins

### Intercom is the better pick for

- Running a full support team, with inbox, tickets, SLAs, routing, reports and a help centre
- Actually doing things for customers, like refunds and account changes
- Talking to customers on email, phone, WhatsApp, SMS and social
- Low volume, because you only pay when the AI gets a result
- Trying everything first, with a 14-day trial and no card
- Big companies with strict security and buying rules

### WhisperChat is the better pick for

- No seat fees. Add a teammate to read chats and your bill doesn’t change
- A bill that stays the same, even in your busiest month
- Medium to high volume, where the savings get big (see the table above)
- Getting started fast. Paste one script and you’re live
- A free plan you can leave running on a quiet site for as long as you want
- Ready-made connections for WordPress, Shopify, Odoo, Slack, Discord, Telegram and Zapier, plus an MCP server and a REST API

## Ask yourself these before switching

### Does anyone actually use the inbox?

This is the big one. If your team answers chats in Intercom every day, switching takes away something nothing else in your setup does.

But be honest. Is Intercom really just an expensive FAQ box that nobody checks? Then the numbers above matter a lot.

### How many resolutions are you getting?

Don’t guess. Open your Intercom reports and look. At 100 a month, Fin costs $99 and that’s fair. At 2,500, you’re paying around $2,475 a month for Fin alone. That’s a very different conversation.

### What happens when the bot doesn’t know?

WhisperChat shows how sure it is about each answer. When it’s not sure, it asks for the visitor’s contact details and lets your team know. It can also send them a Cal.com link to book a call.

Nobody jumps into the chat live, though. Most teams use it alongside email or a simple helpdesk. If you need a real person in the chat within seconds, Intercom is the better fit.

### Do you need tickets or support reports?

WhisperChat doesn’t do tickets. You get chat history on every plan. From $49 you also get an analytics dashboard, a weekly insights email, a list of common questions and a heads-up when a page is confusing people.

That’s great for making the bot better. It’s not a replacement for proper support team reports.

## Or... use both

You don’t have to switch everything. If the real problem is your Fin bill, try splitting the work.

Put WhisperChat on your public website to handle the easy stuff: pricing questions, “how does this work” questions, help docs. Keep Intercom for logged-in customers and anything that needs a person.

Fewer chats reach Fin, so you pay less. And your team keeps the inbox they’re used to.

It’s a smaller change with less risk. Will it sell us the most subscriptions? No. But for a lot of teams, it’s the smart move.

## So, which one should you go with?

Go with WhisperChat if you’re a small team, nobody really works out of the inbox, and Fin has turned into the biggest line on your bill. Same goes if you picked a big support platform just because everyone else uses it.

Go with Intercom if your team answers chats by hand, you need tickets, workflows or SLAs, you talk to customers on lots of channels, or you need the AI to take real actions. Strict security rules point to Intercom too. And honestly, if your volume is low, paying only for results is a good deal.

## Want to see what a website chatbot can handle?

Train WhisperChat on your public pages and watch how many questions never need a person. It’s free for 150 questions a month, no card needed.

## FAQ

### How much does Intercom Fin cost?

$0.99 per outcome. If you use it inside Intercom, you also pay $29 to $132 per person a month on yearly billing. With a different helpdesk there’s no seat fee, but you pay for at least 50 outcomes a month.

### What counts as a Fin outcome?

Mostly a resolution, which means the customer didn’t ask for more help after Fin’s last reply. Fin finishing a set process that hands the chat to your team counts too. You’re only charged once per conversation, and nothing at all if the chat goes to a person with no result.

### Is WhisperChat cheaper than Intercom?

At medium volume, by a long way. At 1,000 resolutions a month, Fin is about $990 before seats. WhisperChat Standard is $49 for about 5,000 questions. Just remember Intercom’s price also covers a full support platform.

### Can WhisperChat replace Intercom?

Only if you’re not using Intercom’s inbox, tickets or workflows. WhisperChat answers website questions and collects leads. There’s no shared inbox, no tickets and no live handover in the chat.

### Does Intercom have a free plan?

No, but there’s a 14-day free trial with no card, and Fin is included. WhisperChat has a free plan with 150 questions a month that doesn’t run out.

### Can I use both?

Yep. Run WhisperChat on your public pages for the common questions and keep Intercom for logged-in customers. Fin then bills you for fewer chats.

### Which tools does WhisperChat connect to?

Ten: any website, WordPress, Shopify, Odoo, Slack, Discord, Telegram, Zapier, an MCP server and a REST API. You can also share your bot as a public chat link. WordPress and the website embed work on the free plan; the rest need a paid plan. Every channel answers from the same trained content. WhisperChat doesn’t answer on email, phone, WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram or Facebook.

### Where the numbers come from

Every competitor price, plan limit, and quota on this page was read from that vendor’s own public pricing page or documentation on the date shown above. Where a vendor does not publish a figure, this page says so rather than estimating one.

### What we have not done

We have not run a hands-on trial of the competing products, and we do not claim to have. This page compares published capabilities and published pricing. Anything that would require using the product to know answer quality, support responsiveness, reliability is outside what we can honestly assess here.

### How we decide who wins a row

A row goes to the product whose published information supports it. Where a competitor is stronger than WhisperChat, the page says so. Where a competitor costs less than WhisperChat at a given volume, the page shows both numbers.

### What we do about stale prices

AI chatbot pricing changes often. Each page shows the month its competitor pricing was checked. If that date is more than a few months old, check the vendor’s pricing page before making a decision on it.
