Tidio Alternative

Tidio is a live chat suite with an AI agent attached. WhisperChat is an AI agent with no live chat. That difference decides most of this comparison.

What is the best Tidio alternative?

It depends on whether you need human agents. Tidio is a live chat and helpdesk suite where the Lyro AI agent is billed separately — standalone Lyro starts at $32.50 a month for 50 conversations. WhisperChat is an AI-only website support chatbot with no shared inbox and no live chat, starting free for 150 questions a month and $49 for around 5,000. If your team answers chats by hand, stay with Tidio.

Read this before the price tables

Tidio and WhisperChat are not the same kind of product. Tidio gives you a shared inbox where people on your team answer customer chats, with an AI agent that handles some of them. WhisperChat has no inbox and no human agents — it answers automatically or it hands the conversation off by capturing the contact and emailing your team. If anyone on your team currently replies to live chats, switching to WhisperChat removes that ability entirely. Nothing below outweighs that.

Why teams look for a Tidio alternative

The most common reason, judging by how Tidio structures its own pricing, is the cost of the AI relative to how much of it you get.

Tidio’s Starter plan is $24.17 a month and includes a one-off allowance of 50 Lyro AI conversations — not 50 a month, a one-time bundle. After that, Lyro is metered. Bought standalone, it starts at $32.50 a month for 50 conversations. Flows, the automation builder, is another $24.17 a month for 2,000 visitors reached.

So a small business that wants live chat plus a working AI agent plus automation is assembling three line items, and the AI line scales with usage. That is a legitimate model — you only pay for what you use — but it is harder to forecast than a single plan, and at higher AI volumes it adds up.

The second reason is simpler: some teams do not want live chat at all. They want the repetitive questions answered automatically and everything else to arrive as an email or a lead. For them, most of what Tidio charges for is unused.

About these volume comparisons

Vendors count different things. A “message”, a “credit”, a “conversation”, and a “resolution” are not the same unit, and one customer question can consume several of some of them. The rows below line up the closest published equivalents, but check each vendor’s own definition before you budget against them.

An important caveat on that table

Tidio counts “billable conversations”, which include conversations your human agents handle, not only the ones Lyro answers. WhisperChat counts customer questions answered by AI. Those units genuinely do not line up, and the rows above pair the closest published equivalents rather than identical measures. The comparison that does hold: Tidio meters AI separately from the chat plan, and WhisperChat does not.

Where each product is stronger

Tidio is stronger at

  • Live chat with human agents and a shared inbox — 10 seats included even on the free plan. WhisperChat has neither.
  • Flows, a visual no-code automation builder. WhisperChat has no equivalent.
  • A pay-per-resolution option and a contractually guaranteed 50% resolution rate on the Premium plan.
  • Ecommerce maturity, particularly on Shopify.
  • Departments, multi-project support, and custom branding on the Plus plan.
  • SSO and compliance features at Premium.

WhisperChat is stronger at

  • One bill instead of three. The plan quota is the AI quota — there is no separate AI meter, no Flows line, and no add-on to forecast.
  • AI volume per dollar: around 5,000 questions a month for $49, against Lyro’s $32.50 for 50 conversations at the standalone entry point.
  • A free tier that includes the AI. Tidio’s free plan gives you the inbox; the AI allowance is a one-off.
  • Up to 10 chatbots on the $49 plan, useful for multiple sites or clients.
  • A dedicated Odoo app, a WordPress plugin, and a Discord bot.

Practical differences

What happens when the AI cannot answer?

With Tidio, the conversation goes to a human in the shared inbox and someone replies live. With WhisperChat, the chatbot shows a confidence indicator, and uncertain or sensitive conversations are routed to your team by capturing the visitor’s contact details and notifying you by email — or by handing off to a Cal.com booking link. Your team follows up afterwards rather than joining the chat. For some businesses that is fine. For others it is disqualifying. Decide this first.

Can WhisperChat replace Tidio entirely?

Only if you are not using the inbox. If your team logs into Tidio to answer chats, WhisperChat does not replace that function and there is no configuration that makes it do so. Some teams run WhisperChat as the first line on the website and keep email or a helpdesk for everything else, which works — but that is a different setup, not a like-for-like swap.

What about lead capture?

WhisperChat collects name, email, and phone with individually configurable prompts, can require the form before the conversation starts, notifies you by email when a lead arrives, and can hand off to Cal.com for booking. This starts on the $49 plan. Tidio captures leads through its chat flows and inbox.

Which is easier to set up?

Both are no-code and both take minutes for a basic install. WhisperChat’s setup is narrower — add content sources, wait for training, customise the widget, paste the embed script. Tidio has more to configure because it does more: inbox routing, agent assignment, flows, and the AI.

Migration considerations

Moving from Tidio to WhisperChat means re-training rather than importing: add your website URLs, upload your documents, and recreate any question-and-answer content you had built up in Lyro.

Two things need a decision before you switch, not after. First, where live conversations go once the inbox is gone — usually email, a helpdesk, or a booking link. Second, whether any Flows automations are doing work you have forgotten about, such as routing or qualification, since there is nothing in WhisperChat to move them to.

Export your Tidio conversation history before cancelling. It is the record of what your customers actually ask, and it is the best training material you have for whatever you move to.

Which one should you choose?

Choose WhisperChat if…

Nobody on your team answers live chats, you want the AI cost included in one predictable plan rather than metered separately, or your AI volume is high enough that per-conversation pricing has become the largest line on the bill.

Choose Tidio if…

Your team answers customer chats by hand and needs a shared inbox, you rely on Flows automations, you want a contractually guaranteed resolution rate, or you want to pay only per resolved conversation rather than a flat monthly fee.

FAQ

Is WhisperChat a full Tidio replacement?

No, not if you use Tidio’s live chat. WhisperChat has no shared inbox and no way for a team member to take over a conversation in real time. It replaces the AI answering layer, not the human one.

How much does Tidio’s Lyro AI cost?

Standalone Lyro starts at $32.50 a month for 50 conversations. Tidio’s Starter plan at $24.17 a month includes a one-off allowance of 50 Lyro conversations. A pay-per-resolution model appears on the Premium plan. Checked August 2026.

Does Tidio have a free plan?

Yes — $0 for 50 billable conversations a month with 10 seats. It gives you the inbox and the chat widget; the AI allowance is separate and one-off. WhisperChat’s free plan is AI-only: 150 questions a month with no expiry.

Which is cheaper for AI answers?

WhisperChat, at anything beyond very low volume, because its plan quota is the AI quota. Around 5,000 AI-answered questions a month costs $49 with WhisperChat. With Tidio, AI conversations are metered on top of the plan, starting from $32.50 a month for 50 standalone. The units differ, so treat this as an indication rather than a like-for-like figure.

Where the numbers come from

Every competitor price, plan limit, and quota on this page was read from that vendor’s own public pricing page or documentation on the date shown above. Where a vendor does not publish a figure, this page says so rather than estimating one.

What we have not done

We have not run a hands-on trial of the competing products, and we do not claim to have. This page compares published capabilities and published pricing. Anything that would require using the product to know — answer quality, support responsiveness, reliability — is outside what we can honestly assess here.

How we decide who wins a row

A row goes to the product whose published information supports it. Where a competitor is stronger than WhisperChat, the page says so. Where a competitor costs less than WhisperChat at a given volume, the page shows both numbers.

What we do about stale prices

AI chatbot pricing changes often. Each page shows the month its competitor pricing was checked. If that date is more than a few months old, check the vendor’s pricing page before making a decision on it.
