Chatbase Alternative
A researched comparison of WhisperChat and Chatbase for website customer support — with both vendors’ published pricing side by side.
Chatbase pricing checked August 2026. Free plan available.
What is the best Chatbase alternative?
WhisperChat is a strong Chatbase alternative for teams that want a website support chatbot at a fixed monthly price. WhisperChat’s Free plan covers 150 questions a month and never deletes your bot, while Chatbase’s free tier gives 50 message credits and removes agents after 14 days of inactivity. Chatbase is the better choice if you need voice, telephony, outbound campaigns, or helpdesk features, which WhisperChat does not offer.

Why teams look for a Chatbase alternative
Chatbase is a capable AI agent platform, and most people searching for an alternative are not unhappy with the product — they have hit a specific constraint. Based on Chatbase’s own published plans, three constraints stand out.
The first is the free tier. Fifty message credits a month is enough to see the product work, but not enough to leave a chatbot running on a live site. Chatbase’s pricing page also states that agents are deleted after 14 days of inactivity, so a bot you set up and come back to next month may not be there.
The second is the step up to the Standard plan. Chatbase’s Hobby plan is $32 a month for 700 message credits. The next tier, at $120 a month, is where API access, auto-retraining, and the helpdesk features live. If your site generates a few thousand questions a month but you do not need voice, telephony, or outbound campaigns, you are paying for a platform considerably wider than your problem.
The third is add-on pricing. Removing Chatbase branding is $1,188 a year, and extra agents are $300 a year each. Those are reasonable prices for what they are, but they make the total harder to predict than a flat plan.
Pricing compared at real volumes
| Questions per month | Chatbase | WhisperChat | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| ~50 | Free — 50 credits | Free — 150 questions | WhisperChat’s free tier is three times larger and does not expire |
| ~700 | Hobby — $32/mo | Standard — $49/mo (~5,000) | Chatbase is cheaper at this volume; WhisperChat has no tier between 150 and ~5,000 |
| ~4,000 | Standard — $120/mo | Standard — $49/mo (~5,000) | Chatbase Standard also includes helpdesk, voice, telephony and outbound |
| ~15,000 | Pro — $400/mo | Scale — $399/mo (~40,000) | Similar price; WhisperChat’s quota is larger, Chatbase’s feature set is wider |
About these volume comparisons
Vendors count different things. A “message”, a “credit”, a “conversation”, and a “resolution” are not the same unit, and one customer question can consume several of some of them. The rows below line up the closest published equivalents, but check each vendor’s own definition before you budget against them.
The honest read on price
At around 700 questions a month, Chatbase costs less than WhisperChat — $32 against $49 — because WhisperChat has no plan between its 150-question free tier and its ~5,000-question Standard plan. That is a real gap in our pricing ladder. Above roughly 3,000 questions a month the comparison turns the other way. Neither product is simply cheaper than the other; it depends entirely on your volume.
Where each product is stronger
Both lists are drawn from each vendor’s published capabilities. Neither is exhaustive, and neither is padded.
Chatbase is stronger at
- Channel breadth — voice and telephony are available from the Standard plan. WhisperChat has no phone channel at all.
- Outbound campaigns, which WhisperChat does not offer in any form.
- Helpdesk features, including using past support tickets as a training source on the Pro plan.
- Scheduled automatic retraining. WhisperChat currently supports manual retraining only.
- Enterprise controls: SSO, audit logs, white-labelling, and HIPAA eligibility. WhisperChat offers none of these.
- A published team-seat model that scales with the plan.
WhisperChat is stronger at
- Free-tier usefulness — 150 questions a month, and your chatbot is not deleted for inactivity.
- Number of chatbots per dollar: up to 10 on the $49 plan, which matters if you run several sites or clients.
- Question volume per dollar above roughly 3,000 questions a month.
- Branding removal included in a plan rather than sold as a $1,188/year add-on.
- API access from the $49 plan rather than the $120 plan.
- A dedicated Odoo app and a WordPress plugin, for teams already on those platforms.
What actually differs day to day
Training sources
Both products train on your own content. WhisperChat accepts website URLs, PDF, DOCX and TXT uploads, pasted text, and question-and-answer pairs you write directly. Chatbase supports comparable sources and adds past support tickets as a source on its Pro plan, which is genuinely useful if you have years of Zendesk history to learn from.
Setup effort
Both are no-code. With WhisperChat you add your content sources, wait a few minutes for training, customise the widget, and paste an embed script into your site. There is also a WordPress plugin and an Odoo app if you are on those platforms. Expect the same order of effort with Chatbase.
Lead capture
WhisperChat collects name, email, and phone with individually configurable prompts, can require the form before chatting, emails you when a lead arrives, and can hand off to a Cal.com booking link instead of a form. Lead capture starts on the $49 Standard plan and is not available on the free tier. Chatbase also supports lead capture.
Escalation to a human
This is worth being precise about. WhisperChat shows a confidence indicator on answers and routes uncertain conversations to your team by capturing the contact and notifying you. It does not have a live agent inbox — nobody on your team takes over the chat in real time. If a shared inbox with human agents answering live is a requirement, neither WhisperChat nor a pure AI agent platform is the right category; you want a helpdesk.
Analytics
WhisperChat provides conversation history on every plan, and from $49 adds a support analytics dashboard, weekly insight emails, recurring-question insights, and confusing-page detection. Intent detection is Scale-only. Chatbase includes basic analytics from Hobby and advanced analytics on Pro.
Integrations
WhisperChat integrates with WordPress (plugin), Discord (bot with a slash command), and Odoo (free app), plus a REST API, an MCP server, and an embed script that works on any website. Chatbase lists a broader integration catalogue that widens with each tier. If you need a specific connector, check both vendors’ current integration lists rather than relying on this page.
Migrating from Chatbase to WhisperChat
There is no automated import between the two products, so a migration is a re-training exercise rather than a data transfer. In practice that means re-adding your website URLs, re-uploading your documents, and re-entering any question-and-answer pairs you wrote by hand.
The part worth planning for is your hand-written Q&A pairs and any custom system prompt. Those represent real editorial work and are the thing most likely to be lost. Export or copy them out of Chatbase before you cancel.
Run both in parallel for a week if you can. Keep the Chatbase widget live on the site, train WhisperChat on the same sources, and compare answers to the twenty questions your customers actually ask most. That comparison will tell you more than any feature table, including this one.
One thing that does not transfer: if you are using Chatbase’s voice, telephony, or outbound campaign features, WhisperChat has no equivalent. Confirm you are not relying on them before you switch.
Which one should you choose?
Choose WhisperChat if…
Your main need is answering repetitive questions on your website, you want a usable free tier to validate it first, you run more than one site or client, or your volume is above roughly 3,000 questions a month and you want a flat monthly cost.
Choose Chatbase if…
You need voice or telephony support, outbound campaigns, helpdesk features, tickets as a training source, scheduled auto-retraining, or enterprise controls such as SSO and audit logs. At under about 1,000 questions a month, Chatbase’s $32 Hobby plan is also simply cheaper.

Where the numbers come from
Every competitor price, plan limit, and quota on this page was read from that vendor’s own public pricing page or documentation on the date shown above. Where a vendor does not publish a figure, this page says so rather than estimating one.
What we have not done
We have not run a hands-on trial of the competing products, and we do not claim to have. This page compares published capabilities and published pricing. Anything that would require using the product to know — answer quality, support responsiveness, reliability — is outside what we can honestly assess here.
How we decide who wins a row
A row goes to the product whose published information supports it. Where a competitor is stronger than WhisperChat, the page says so. Where a competitor costs less than WhisperChat at a given volume, the page shows both numbers.
What we do about stale prices
AI chatbot pricing changes often. Each page shows the month its competitor pricing was checked. If that date is more than a few months old, check the vendor’s pricing page before making a decision on it.
